Lopburi a city of monkey

PRA PRANG SAM YOD is a place where to see Lopburi monkey during the noon and the evening where as in the morning the monkeys prefer to stay at SAN PRA KAN

Lopburi is a city of monkey because in a city is a place call SAN PRA KAN and PRA PRANG SAM YOD is a home of monkeys that live in this town for a long time from a small number and up to the big number in the present an estimate of totally is more than 3000 right now and they became a part of Lopburi ,a city animal,a symbol of Lopburi city.Actually ,in the first local people anti this monkey because they are trouble maker such as steal food and attack the people for staff and food ,broke car or house ,broke cable TV. and etc. so local people have to tolerance with this wild monkey but, got used to this action of the monkey so far.Today there are a lot of tourist from different part of Thailand come to visit Lopburi dew to the name of monkey ,so if you come to Lopburi and didn't see any monkey it mean you didn't really get to Lopburi yet.Because of monkey so, more tourist come to the city and more income for economic too ,so it can be said that both people and monkey are help each other and get along with each other finally.
Do local Lopburi people hate monkey? I don't think so. In my point of view at the initial could be ,but not now because we have already accustomed with them and became a normal thing in Lopburi whereas the monkey also adapted themselves for living in a city and how to deal with people as well.
Tolerance or put up with ?
Normal things have done by the monkey like try to break into a car for food or grabbing even stealing some food from pass by people around the city which is cause people to upset or irritate with them.

The post in the city warn people about the monkey55 they could be nice normally ,but could be opposite sometimes 55

How about the worst thing like bite people or attack people ..this is unusually because normally they wont attack or bite people if they do not threaten or tease by people.I would say that by their nature they would fight or bite if something unusual happen with them like being hit or step on for instance.
On the street and catch a glass of juices from my son 55

On the building ,you would see them take a rest during the humid day on the high building
Inspecting a car parking along side of the street for something to eat or play 55

climbing on the telephone cable line sometime even cause them to cut or broke down 55
sitting on the phone cable
TV.antenna prevent the monkey to climb on the top and break them down ,however for today is better because now people turn to use a cable TV.which is run by the center of operate room and connect to the house by the cable TV. line.

Find something eat in Lopburi

There are very good and famous restaurants in Lopburi where are the visitor can enjoy the Delicious and tasty of Thai food as well as a normal restaurants vailable for visitor across the city.
Food stall along side the street is also available by order the price is very cheap for example a plate of rice which serve with cooked chicken and a small bowl of soup (in Thai language we called Khao Man Kai ,but in English I am not sure55) is only 25-30 baht which is 1$ in compare.Another menu is Thai noodle with the price is normally the same as the plate of rice or if you want to try somethings more delicious like fried rice with egg and pork (Thai call Khao Pad Kai) or a menu in which i saw many visitor in Thailand took it is a fried noodle with egg and some pork (Thai call Pad Thai) .then about drinking water ,normally they will provide us with a big can or jug of water that a customer has to self-service by taking one water of glass ,however what a picture I saw was a visitor especially a foreigner won't take this water may be I assume the fear of not clean water and will cause them ill or sick which is not a good thing if got sick during traveling ,so they will take more precaution with drinking water and what I have seen for age is a visitor with a bottle of pure water in each of their hand or bag.For those who might want something easy then you can take food and drink from convenient store call 7-11 shop which is around the clock open and the visitor can get fast food like burger ,bread ,milk ,coffee, sausage, rice, snack, cigarette, phone card, book and etc.For how many 7-11 in Lopburi I am really sorry ,never count, but guarantee you won't miss it because it is easy to notice with sign 7-11 and only a walk distance cross the area o Lopburi city.
Well all in all my basic information I hope it help somehow, but if you come in a group and want to have something more ,then I would recommend you go to the most famous restaurant in Lopburi called Bua Laung Restaurant where the visitor can enjoy a varieties of Thai food menu and western style in such an affordable price (I used to take my family there on special days and the price is very OK) for example a table with 5-7 items (could be fish ,chicken, beef etc.) for 5-7 people the price is around 800-1000 baht which is only about 200 baht for sharing. This restaurant is such a nice place and beautiful area with the warm welcome for all visitor and all menu both in Thai and English and open daily from 10 am-12 pm. in addition they provide a VIP room,a reception room and singing room for customers as well the phone number is for more detail and reservation

Take a walk around the city is a good for your health and body strength and will take about 2- 3 hours I would recommend you to start off from Lopburi railroad station, and then move forward to San Pra Kan where is a house of Lopburi monkey and about San Pra Kan is a place where local people and near by province come to respect as a holy place to wish for luck and happy. you are welcome to see inside the San Pra Kan ,but keep you shoes off before entering the place.A visitor will have a good chance to see all monkey closely in vary aspect such as baby monkey ,father mother monkey and young monkey with them closely.

Tips Monkey is a monkey most of them are familiar with the visitor and wont do anything to threaten the visitor ,however few case report of monkey bite and stolen the visitor's belonging such as hand bag and watch etc. so keep thing in a secure place is gonna be safer .then after that on the left hand side you would see a big three pagoda located over there . it is a walk distance about 2 minutes from San Pra Kan so ,let's move to the next

thanks for the picture source http://heyboibz.exteen.com/
Pra Prand Sam Yod or Three pagodas
I would like to tell that is a city land mark and has a unique identity with the 3 pagodas and erected in the middle part of the city where is easily seen by a visitor. today it has old age and under the take care of the local authority with need some money to take care then so that in a good shape for a visitor a little money for a ticket for looking inside is for taking care them, however this is a visitor choice that you will go inside or not.
Then take a walk along the road to the Wichayen House, about 5 minutes
The Next stop is BAN WICHAYEN or WICHAYEN HOUSE is a house which is used to be the place to receive the ambassador from France that come to Lopburi in king NARAI the great in 1685 and then Mr. Constantine Phaulkon (he is a priest ) from Greece who served for king Narai the great and did a job well so he got promote to the high raking official and received this house from the king as award .

The remarks of the house is consisted of three parts ,first is an architect of the residential area and the main room for any purposes ,most of the house are adapted from European style ,especially the big house is built by Renaissance style and the very important things are the church which is a European model but for the door and the windows are the mix style of Thai art ,so this can be say this is the first church in the world which is a mixer of Buddhism art as well
The Next stop is the Palace
About the palace it was built in the king Narai the great period in 1685 as a second capital city of Ayddthaya. The king was really like this palace and always come to stay and live for a long time. For today the palace is ruin and obsolete ,however by taking care of the local authority to preserve this as the value things from the past to the new people so the local authority is in charge of rebuild the ruin parts and keep protect them in a good condition and open to the visitor both Thai and foreigner to visit and study about the history .The visitor have to pay for the entrance tickets fee for about 25 baht for Thai and about 100 baht for a foreigner.Inside the palace are the museum ,the official house where the king used for work.

Tip during the 16 - 20 February of the year will be a festival call the land of king Narai the great which have a big celebration and show for of light and sound and many interesting action fall back to the past .The local people will dress in the past time cloth and decoration and for sure this is really fun and enjoy so this time is really clouded people in Lopburi

Lopburi

Things to do | How to get there | Sleep | Eat? | Lopburi city of monkey | Drink | Outdoor activities |

Lopburi at a glance
Lopburi is a small and quiet city located in the central part of Thailand and used to be the capital city of the country in the past,so if you are an archeologist or interesting to study of history and ancient city Lopburi could be the perfect site for you such as king Narai palace and Three pagodas for instance.
Lopburi is a city of monkey where a thousand of monkey live and became the symbol of the province ,so if you first time come to Loburi you would see a lot of monkey in Lopburi as well as a statue of big monkey in difference poses.
Lopbui is a city of soldier because there are more than 10 military camps located in Lopburi province both Army and Air force.

A province in the central region of Thailand, Lop Buri Province is located approximately 154 kilometers north of Bangkok. Covering an area of 6,199 square kilometers, the province is situated on the western end of the Khorat Plateau. It borders Chaiyaphum and Nakhon Ratchasima Provinces on the east, Phetchabun and Nakhon Sawan Provinces on the north, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya and Saraburi Provinces on the South. Lop Buri Province is one of several provinces in central Thailand where many significant historical artifacts and prehistoric settlements have been discovered.

Formerly known as Lawo, Lop Buri had for centuries been ruled by several Kingdoms. The remains of Lop Buri, dating over 1,200 years attests to the strategic significance of Lop Buri to many rulers. These relics, ranging from the Bronze Age to the Ratanakosin period, have made Lop Buri a blend of east and west and ancient and modern, revealing the citys turbulent and alluring history and a glimpse of Thailands extraordinary past.

The Past

Lop Buri was first developed into a major town during the Dvaravati Kingdom (6th 11th centuries). Most historians believed the first settlers of the town were the Lawa (an ethnic group related to the Mons) which is the reason for naming the town Lawo. In 10th century, the town came under absolute sovereignty of the Khmers who made it one of their oldest provincial capitals. The Khmer Mahayana Buddhism style was a major influence on the towns architecture and was later commonly referred to as Lop Buri Style. Remains of KhmerHindu architectural motifs found in the city include the Shivas Shrine (Prang Khaek), San Phra Kan, Phra Prang Sam Yot, and Wat Phra Si Mahathat.

It was in the late 13th century when the Thais, who migrated from the North, fought against the Khmers and declared their independence. Since then, Lop Buri has been ruled by Thai Kings.

Lop Buri first became known when King U-Tong, who established the Ayutthaya Kingdom, sent his son, Ramesuan the Crown Prince, to govern the city. The Prince commanded the building of moats, city walls and battlement towers.
Lop Buri reached its height in 1664 when King Narai the Great of Ayutthaya named Lop Buri the Kingdoms second capital, which came after a threat of invasion from Hollanders. King Narai the Great rebuilt Lop Buri with the help of French architects and ruled the Kingdom from there, instead of Ayutthaya., Thus the citys architecture mostly reflected a mixture of Thai and Western styles, which can be seen today in the remains of the Royal Palace, the Royal Reception House etc.

Lop Buri gradually faded from the political scene with the death of King Narai the Great. It, however, made a comeback approximately 200 years later when King Rama IV of the Ratanakosin Era decided to restore the city. He also commanded the restoration of the old Palace and named it Phra Narai Ratchaniwet (Narai Ratchaniwet Palace) in honor of King Narai the Great.

After Thailands democratic revolution, Marshall Poh Pibulsongkram rebuilt a military camp near the citys railroad, therefore, dividing the city into the old (ancient) and new zone.

The Present

Today, Lop Buri is administratively divided into 11 Amphoes (Districts) including Muang, Ban Mi, Chai Badan, Khok Charoen, Khok Samrong, Phatthana Nikhom, Tha Luang, Tha Wung, Sa Bot, Lam Sonthi and Nong Muang.

Apart from historical attractions, Lop Buri provides opportunities for nature lovers to visit its famous Sap langka Wildlife Sanctuary in the north.
Another special landmark of Lop Buri is monkeys. To tourists, the city is known as the land of monkeys. To the people of Lop Buri, the monkeys are descendants of Hanuman who, according to the Ramayana, built Lop Buri as his kingdom. The food offerings in San Phra Kan drew the monkeys from nearby forests. These mischievous monkeys have taken over several attractions such as San Phra Kan and Phra Prang Sam Yot. A big feast for the monkeys on the last Sunday of November is held annually at Phra Prang Sam Yot and is one of the most attractive and most talked about tourist events in Thailand.
Distances from Amphoe Muang to Other Districts:

Tha Wung 15 kms.
Ban Mi 32 kms.
Khok Samrong 35 kms.
Phatthana Nikhom 51 kms.
Nong Muang 54 kms.
Sa Bot 65 kms.
